Protecting Your Security

Keep Your Online Transactions and Personal Information Safe

A secure online experience begins with taking proactive measures to protect your personal information from potential threats.

The following suggestions are important steps:

Never share passwords or Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) with anyone.

Never write your passwords down where they can be easily found.

Change your password frequently. Create complex passwords that include a combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Never use passwords relating to birth dates, family members, or any other easily identified source.

Fraud & Theft Contact Information

In the unfortunate event that your personal information is stolen, taking immediate action is crucial to mitigate potential harm and protect your assets.

The first step is to file a crime report with your local police department and request a copy for your records. Next, contact your bank and all creditors to report the situation. It is important to follow up with a formal letter outlining the suspected fraud to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to address the issue.

It is also recommended that victims of identity theft file a report with the Federal Trade Commission. In the event your Social Security number, driver’s license, telephone calling card or other sensitive information has been stolen or compromised, the fraud departments of those agencies and companies should also be notified. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recommends you maintain a correspondence file of all of your communications with credit agencies, financial institutions, and other parties contacted about the theft.
